A group headed for Costa Ballena usually books San José and a regular car. That is the long way in. Juan Santamaría (SJO) is the international airport, about three hours by road to Dominical. Quepos (XQP) is the domestic field, under an hour from Dominical and closer still to Dominicalito. The last stretch up to the houses above Dominicalito beach is unpaved and steep. Ask for a 4x4 before anyone lands, and tell the driver the house is on the hill, not on the sand.

Dominical town is a few minutes north of Dominicalito. That beach is the surf town. Dominicalito beach is the closer sand. Uvita and Marino Ballena sit south of that, about twenty minutes from the hill. The whale tail shows at low tide. The southern humpbacks are in the bay from about July through October. Nauyaca is a separate morning. Manuel Antonio is about fifty minutes north, past Quepos. Do not stack those on the day everyone lands.

December through April is the drier stretch. May through November is greener and wetter. A week in October can still rain through lunch. Keep the outdoor meals for the morning.

The towns along this coast are small. A group of twelve will feel it at the market. Stock the house before arrival, or send someone down the hill the first morning. Do not assume a restaurant can seat the whole group without a booking. The people who live with this road already have a driver, a cook, and two restaurants they trust. Ask them.

Power can drop in a storm. Ask the house whether a generator covers the kitchen and the bedrooms, and whether the wifi reaches the room where someone has to take a call. One house books the week. The houses above Dominicalito look at the water. They are not on it.
